Java Monkey

Relaxed coffeehouse with indoor & outdoor seating, plus simple cafe fare & frequent entertainment.

Decatur is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is an intown suburb of Atlanta and part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, and its public transportation is served by three MARTA rail stations. Decatur's official motto is "A city of homes, schools and places of worship."  Prior to 2000, this motto was "A city of homes, schools, and churches." Residents frequently refer to the unofficial motto of the town, "Everything is greater in Decatur."

We arrived at 11:29 AM on a sunny Monday. Upon entering Java Monkey, it was inviting and a chill atmosphere. Seating is plentiful, tables, bar stools, and overstuffed comfy chairs. The barista was friendly. We ordered 2 mochas. While the coffee was being made, we soaked up the atmosphere.  Artwork,  a very nice collection of wines. Seems like a good place to hang out with a friend or a date. Especially, the cozy courtyard, to people watch, and soak up the fresh air.

My biggest disappointment was parking in downtown Decatur. Only options I observed were metered parking or a parking garage.  We opted for the parking garage. ($5.00 flat fee)

Aurora Coffee

Aurora Coffee is located in a unique area of Atlanta, known as Little Five points. Little Five Points is a district on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, United States, 2 1⁄2 miles of downtown. It was established in the early 1900s as the commercial district for the adjacent Inman Park and Candler Park neighborhoods and has since become famous for the alternative culture it brings to Atlanta. It has been described as Atlanta's answer to Haight-Ashbury, a melting pot of subcultures, and the Bohemian center of the Southern United States. Words I use to describe the area Hipsters paradise, Bohemian and Artsy.

Entering from the side of the building you're greeted by a large wall mural.  A few seconds after looking at the menu board, the barista asked what I would like. I told him I wanted something different, my usual is a latte or mocha. He asked me a few more questions than suggested a Chai Thai.

The cool thing, besides being located in Little Five points, it is located next to a skateboard shop. People watching paradise for me. Lots of foot traffic, music was playing in the background, but not overpowering. But overall very calming.  I can assume this is home to many regulars, the barista knew many people by name.

A few of the patrons, never looked up from their Apple laptops, a few actually mingled and enjoyed the atmosphere.  There is also a large wooden patio on the side of the building. (not sure where the pic went, lol) Below is a large mural on the side of the building.
