Octane Coffee and Bar

This is an industrial-chic cafe that serves a variety of espresso beverages, light bites & cocktails at night.

We arrived at 10:50 AM on a sunny Monday and was immediately impressed by the beautiful Victorian homes in the area. Octane is a good-sized establishment with an outside patio and a horseshoe shaped bar inside. Seating is plentiful and the tables and chairs are in decent shape. Today was pretty crowded, with a majority of the customers being hipsters, students and stroller moms.

Grant Park, the intown neighborhood surrounding the park,  is one of Atlanta's oldest and most important historic districts, listed on the NRHP. It is bordered by the Cabbagetown neighborhood on the north, Ormewood Park on the east, Boulevard Heights on the southeast, Chosewood Park on the south, and Summerhill and Peoplestown on the west.

It includes the park, 48 acres or 35 hectares of Oakland Cemetery (established 1850), where Margaret Mitchell,  Bobby Jones, 25 former mayors of Atlanta, six former governors of Georgia, and many Civil War dead are buried. It also includes the Atlanta Stockade, Fort Walker, and the 1858 mansion of Lemuel P. Grant, second-oldest house still standing in its original location in Atlanta, and for whose owner the park and neighborhood were named. The Grant Park Neighborhood Association represents local residents.

Together with Inman Park, Grant Park contains the largest remaining area of Victorian architecture in Atlanta.

JavaVino: Coffee and Wine House

I found this coffee shop trying to avoid rush hour traffic in Atlanta. So happy for heavy traffic, this has become my go to coffee shop.

JavaVino is located in Poncey-Highland is a neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta, Georgia, located south of Virginia-Highland. It so named because it is near the intersection of east/west Ponce de Leon Avenue and north/southwest North Highland Avenue. This Atlanta neighborhood was established between 1905 and 1930 and is bordered by Druid Hills and Candler Park across Moreland Ave. to the east, the Old Fourth Ward across the BeltLine to the west, Inman Park across the eastern branch of Freedom Parkway to the south, and Virginia Highland to the north across Ponce de Leon Avenue.[3] The Little Five Points area sits on the border of Poncey-Highland, Inman Park, and Candler Park. Wikipedia

Arrived about 1:30 pm on a cloudy Sunday. The staff was friendly.  Crowded, but not packed. Many people were on their laptops. Couples lounging on the couch in the back, sipping on their Java.  On a nice day, my favorite place to sit is on the outside patio. It is great way to people watch the joggers, dog walkers, and parents with strollers. With the close proximity to Little Five points, you will also see those with the Bohemian vibe and the occasional Grateful Dead fan.

Park Grounds Atlanta

An awesome little spot in the area known as Reynoldstown, this is a place where locals and their pets gather. They offer a large fenced-in area for your dogs to roam while you sip on a mocha, devour a tasty pastry and enjoy the free wi-fi.

Reynoldstown is a historic neighborhood on the near east side of Atlanta, Georgia located only 2 miles from downtown. The neighborhood is gentrifying and attracting new families, empty-nesters, Atlantans opposed to long commutes; as well as a diverse culture of first-time homebuyers, single professionals, artists, and students all  due to its close proximity to other nearby intown neighborhoods, high walkability index, urban amenities and nearby bohemian hotspots on Carroll Street in the adjoined-at-the-hip also historic Cabbagetown neighborhood and in other surrounding communities. I arrived around noon on a Saturday. The place was not full, but there was a fair amount of people inside and out. Outside area with tables, benches for drinking and eating are available while watching the dogs and puppies run around.

 Hmmm, a very pretty Latte

The dog play area. Offers fresh water within a
good-sized fenced area. Beautiful setting, framed by a large tree offering shade during the hot Atlanta summer.

Atlanta Neighborhood Coffee shops

We all love coffee. I prefer neighborhood coffee shops over chains like Starbucks.  I enjoy the neighborhood vibe, the friendliness of staff, and the general relaxed feel.  I will be posting pictures and reviews of coffee shops around my current city of Atlanta in support of small local businesses.
